UBC Staff Service Recognition Program

Background

The President’s Service Award for Excellence (PSAE) has been awarded on campus since 1991 and since then, 92 employees have received the award. However, with the growth of staff numbers over the years as well as the addition of UBC Okanagan, it was felt that there were not enough opportunities to recognize staff.

Strategy 2 of Focus on People: Workplace Practices at UBC calls for an expansion of the categories of awards available in the President’s Service Awards for Excellence Program. In response to this, and with the encouragement of the PSAE Committee and the support of the President, it was decided that the existing PSAE award should be awarded to staff only in the future.

As well, a new award category has been launched on both campuses. While they are lesser awards than the President’s Service Award for Excellence, they are still significant awards designed to recognize the personal achievements and contributions of staff to UBC and to the vision and goals of the University.

There are now three sections of the UBC Staff Service Recognition Program:

1) President’s Service Award for Excellence – open to staff at UBCV and UBCO (see specific criteria)

2) UBCV President’s Staff Awards – open to staff at UBC Vancouver only

3) UBCO Staff Awards of Excellence – open to staff at UBC Okanagan only

President's Service Award for Excellence

The President’s Service Award for Excellence is the top award presented to staff in recognition of excellence in personal achievements and contributions to UBC and to the vision and goals of the University. Please see the nomination package below for more detailed description of the award criteria.

The UBC Vancouver Ceremonies Office serves as the support base for the President's Service Committee, which solicits and designates nominees for the President's Service Award for Excellence. Awards are presented during Congregation ceremonies and in the case of UBC Okanagan, during Convocation ceremonies. The UBCV Ceremonies Office (or, when applicable, the UBCO Ceremonies Office) also arranges the ceremonies and recognition events that relate to these special university honors.
